As most of you may already know, Ecuador was considered one of the cheapest countries to live back in the day and it was named the best place to retire only about 5 times in a row! It didn't stay the cheapest though. Ecuador is a lovely country with great people but the way it is presented is a gimmick and shall we say, exploitation. Now Portugal is next and about 5 other places in the retire abroad sphere! If we had a t-shirt slogan it would read: We Survived the Cheapest Country and the "Best Place to Retire!"
